MOSCOW, April 26 (RIA Novosti) – On May 6, the daily
newspaper Izvestia is scheduled to publish its May 9, 1945 issue as supplement,
the newspaper reported Tuesday.
“This is a military gift to those who fought at the front, the veterans
of the Great Patriotic War, all Russians and our nearest neighbors who honor the
memory of those who did not return from the battlefield and upheld peace on the
planet during World War II,” an editorial explained.
The supplement will be an exact replica of the newspaper issue which 60 years
ago announced to the Soviet people the Allied Powers’ victory over Nazi
Germany.
“The same patriotic spirit, laconic style and the same print” will be
preserved, Izvestia wrote.
The poem Sacred War by Vasily Lebedev-Kumach and the immortal verses by
Konstantin Simonov “Wait for me, and I’ll return, only wait as hard as you can…”
were published for the first time in Izvestia.
“This is why the editorial board of the newspaper Izvestia considers it to be
its duty to publish this unique issue from 60 years ago, preserved in its
archives, so that the generations that were born and grew up in peace know of
the horrors of war and the heroic feat of our people. Keep Victory
Izvestia!” the editorial read.
All subscribers will receive this unique archive issue. It will be sold at
newsstands from May 6 to 10.
