Viktor Yushchenko’s Timetable for May 9 Has Not Been Finalized Yet

KIEV, March 28 (RIA Novosti) – Irina Gerashchenko, President Viktor Yushchenko’s press secretary, told the Novosti-Ukraine news agency on Monday, that the Ukrainian leader’s timetable for May 9 had not been finalized so far.

“All politicians understand the importance of that holiday for each country, and the president will, by all means, be with Ukrainian veterans on that day. However, Moscow is the capital of a winning country and a symbol of the victory for veterans. Therefore, we are working over a timetable that would allow the president to pay tribute to veterans and demonstrate the country’s political position on the issue,” said Gerashchenko.

Gerashchenko denied comments on President Yushchenko’s possible timetable for May 9, but emphasized that “veterans organizations’ opinion would be crucial for decision-making.”

A source in the Ukrainian president’s secretariat, however, said a possibility of Yushchenko visiting Moscow for one hour on May 9 was being considered.

President Yushchenko said earlier he intended to pay a visit to Moscow on May 8 and celebrate V-day in Ukraine.
