HAVANA, March 28 (RIA Novosti correspondent Anna Bobina) – A
military parade will take place in Havana on May 9 as part of the celebrations
of the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Andrei
Dmitriyev, Russian ambassador to Cuba, told RIA Novosti.
The parade will take place near the monument to Soviet troops
Dmitriyev said Russian officials were expected to attend the parade.
The ambassador believes the Cuban authorities’ decision to hold the parade
testifies to the country’s friendliness towards Russia.
“Will any other country hold a similar event? This testifies to Cuba’s
special attitude to Russia and the Russians. Cuba has not forgotten the aid
provided by the former Soviet Union,” said the ambassador.
