Alexander Tretyakov was born in the village of Pochinki, the Gorky region, in 1927, into a close-knit family: his parents Tatyana and Konstantin, brother Pavel and sister Maria. He attended the Kovrov Railway Engineering School, where he was noted for his excellent academic skills. After being called up to the army, he was sent to the Second Saratov Tank School, where he made friends with Ivan Kondratiev. He finished his training in March 1944. Alexander fought with the 1st Byelorussian Front, in the West, and was killed in Poland.
