On March 25, the advancing 3rd Belarussian Front troops took the town of Heiligenbeil, the last German strongpoint on the Frisches Haff Bay coast, south-west of the town of Königsberg as well as took the settlements of Partheinen, Rensegut, Keimkallen, Bregden, Steindorf, Carben, Preussisch Banau, Schettnienen, Gerlachsdorf, Raade, Leysuhnen, Busterwalde, and Raunenberg. On March 24 and 25, the Front’s troops captured more than 9,000 prisoners in the area as well as seized 109 aircraft, 65 tanks and self-propelled guns, 245 field guns, 176 machineguns, 3,330 wheeled vehicles and 69 armored personnel carriers.

The Red Army fought through the enemy resistance towards Gdansk (Danzig) to take Oliwa, the suburb of Gdansk (Danzig), and took the settlements of Borgfeld, Kowall, Kartschemke, Klein Katz and Wittomin. On March 24, the Red Army captured more than 1,000 prisoners.

The 2nd Ukrainian Front troops launched an offensive and penetrated the enemy’s strong defenses in the mountains of Vertes-Hedyg, west of Budapest, mopped up the enemy forces in the vicinity of Esztergom and pushed forward as far as 45 km.

When on the offensive, the Front’s troops took the towns of Esztergom, Neszmely, Felsogalla, and Tata as well as more than 200 other settlements including Tokod, Tat, Bajot, Tavaros, Tatabanya, Banhida, Kernye, Dunaalmas, Naszagy, Mocsa, Kocs, Szend, and Csaszar.

The Red Army captured 7,000 prisoners, damaged and destroyed 250 tanks and self-propelled guns, more than 300 field guns and a lot of other materiel.

North of Lake Balaton, the Red Army continued the offensive to take the town and railroad station of Varoszlod and more than 50 other settlements, including Papateszer, Bakonykoppany, Tapolcafo, Bakonyjako, Magyarpolany, Szentgal, Totvazsony, Balatonfured, and Furdotelep.

147 German tanks and self-propelled guns were damaged and destroyed and 63 German aircraft were downed on all the fronts on March 24.
