On April 22, the Central Group of Soviet forces fought its way on the Dresden and Berlin approaches.

On the Dresden approach, our troops took the towns of Lubenau, Dahme, Schlieben, Sonnewalde, Finsterwalde, Ruhland, Elsterwerda, Schwepnitz, Burkau and Bishofswerda. According to preliminary reports, over 10,000 prisoners were taken from April 17 to 21 on this approach and 96 enemy aircraft and over 150 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were seized.

Our forces dislodged the opposition from the towns of Biesenthal, Kalberge, Kleinschonebeck, Friedrichshagen, Furstenwalde and Berlin’s suburbs of Glienicke, Lubars, Blankenfelde, Rosenthal, Buchholz, Karow, Blankenburg, Malchow, Weissensee, Hohenschonhausen, Marzahn, Biesdorf, Mahlsdorf, Schoneiche, Fichtenau and Wilhelmshagen on the Berlin approach. According to preliminary reports, they took more than 13,000 prisoners and captured 60 aircraft, over 100 tanks and self-propelled guns and more than 500 field guns on this approach.

North of Vienna, the 2nd Ukrainian Front forces continued their offensive and drove the enemy out of more than 30 locations in Austria, including Drasenhofen, Ottenthal, Wildendurbach, Neudorf, Altenmarkt, Eichenbrunn, Markersdorf and Simonsfeld.

Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued throughout the rest of the front.

On April 21, 156 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were damaged and destroyed and 56 enemy aircraft were shot down in aerial combat and by anti-aircraft guns on all fronts.
