In the course of February 22, our troops, fighting on the SAMLAND Peninsula, repelled massive enemy infantry and tank attacks. At the cost of heavy losses in manpower and materiel, the enemy managed to dislodge our troops from the northern coast of the Konigsberg Bay. Simultaneously, southwest of KONIGSBERG, our troops, fighting to eliminate the enemy’s Eastern-Prussian group and closing the encirclement, seized the town of ZINTEN and the settlements of SARGEN, PAHLTEN, KIRSCHINEN, BORMANNSHOF, PLASWICH. During three days of battles, fought from February 19 to February 21 west of KONIGSBERG, our troops demolished 86 German tanks and self-propelled guns, 76 guns, 160 machineguns and over 300 motor vehicles. The enemy lost over 8,000 men and officers killed.

South of DANZIG, our troops seized the settlements of GOGOLEWO, KONIGSWALDE, BARLOSCHNO, GLUHA, WALDDORF, KRAMPKEN, LONG, GUTTOWITZ, RIETTEL. Fighting in this area on February 21, our troops took over 500 Nazi men and officers prisoners, capturing the following trophies: five self-propelled guns, 55 field guns, and 24 armored personnel carriers.

In POZNAN, fighting to eliminate the enemy garrison holding CITADEL continued.

South of the town of GUBEN in the BRANDENBURG Province, our troops reached the bank of the NEISSE river, seizing over 60 settlements, including the large settlements of SCHENKENDORF, MARKERSDORF, STREGA, TEUPLITZ, TRIEBEL, GROSS SARCHEN, TOPFERSTADT, DUBRAU. In the woods southeast of the town of GUBEN, our troops eliminated a 2,000-strong encircled enemy group, taking combat group commanders Cols. Honsch and Lendeinar prisoner.

In the area of BRESLAU, our troops fought to eliminate the enemy’s garrison encircled in the town, seizing the Breslau suburbs of MASELWITZ, KRIETERN, GUNERN, SIMSDORF.

East of the town of KOMARNO on the north bank of the DANUBE, our troops repelled large-scale enemy infantry and tank attacks. A total of 40 German tanks and self-propelled guns were disabled and destroyed in the fighting in this area on February 21.

Reconnaissance raids and local fighting in a number of areas were reported on the other sections of the front.

On February 21, 198 German tanks were disabled and destroyed on all fronts. A total of 80 enemy aircraft were brought down in aerial combat or by anti-aircraft guns.
