On October 24 in East Prussia, our forces, defying enemy resistance and its
armor-supported counterattacks, advanced stubbornly to take many fortified
settlements, including JODZEN, DAGUTSEN, VERSKEPHEN, KIBARTEN, SILLENINGIEN,
PETERLAUKEN, SKRUDZEN, SILLUPENEN, TRAKENEN, JENCUNEN, ZURGUPHEN, TEVELN,
GURNEN, REGELLEN, and BITTKOVEN. To the south and southeast of the town of
SUVALKI, our forces crossed the August Forests and secured the town and
important railroad station of AUGUSTOW, and over 50 other settlements, including
LIPOVO, SIDORY, SOBOLEVO, GAVRIHRUDA, JUZEFOWO, RUDNIKI, OLSHANKA, ATENY,
KOPANICA, STRENKOVIZNA, LIPOWIEC, and the railroad stations of PODDUBUVEK,
PLOCICNO, and SCHEPKI. In Czechoslovakia to the east and southeast of
MUKACEVO, our forces took the town and important railroad station of HUSTA along
with important settlements of VOLOVE, POLANA, SVALAVA, SINIJVIR, DOLNA KOLOCAVA,
DRAGOVO, NANKOVO, IZA, SOKIRNICA, and VISKOVO. In North Transylvania our
forces secured the following settlements: KEMERZANA, TURC, GERTE MARE, GERTE
MIKE, KELINESTI, LIVADA, MEDERAS, MOFTINUL MARE, GENCI, PETRESTI, RESIGEA and
the railroad stations of PAULESTI, AMAС, LUDOVENI, and TIREAM. Our forces also
entered the town of SATU MARE and took on the enemy there. To the northwest
of the city of SEGED, our forces took the Hungarian town and railroad junction
of KISKUNHALAS, and the town and railroad station of JANOSHALMA
(JANKOVAC). Reconnaissance operations and local fighting were reported
elsewhere on the front. On October 23, our forces destroyed 131 German tanks
on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 47 enemy
aircraft.
