On October 19 to the northwest of JELGAVA (MITAVA), our forces launched an offensive to secure the following settlements: BIGAUNCIEMS, LAPMEZCIEMS, RAGACIEMS, IZKOPI, ERCES, SILINI, and SPRAGOULI.
In Czechoslovakia to the north of the Romanian town of SIGET, our forces secured the settlements of KOBILEÅSKA POLIANA, VIZNA APSA, DOLNA APSA, STREDNI-APSA, MALY BICHKIV, DOLI, BISERIKA ALBY, and SLATINA-SELO.
In North Transylvania, our forces, together with the Romanian forces, took the town and railroad junction of BAJA-MARE, and secured over 60 other settlements, including the major settlements of BAJASPRIE, TEUCI, BEICA, ODESTI, STREMCI, SAMSUD, SARMA-SAG, KARASTELEK, KAMAR, MARKA and the railroad stations of BAJASPRIE, SASARI, BUSAG, SARMASAG, and PORC.
In Hungary to the south of DEBRECEN, our forces continued an offensive to take the town of BERETTYOUJFALU and the settlements of NAD-LETA, VERTES, HOSU-PALI, SARAND, BAGAMER, UI-LETA, and HAIDU-VAMOS-PERC. On October 13 to 18, our forces captured over 11,000 German and Hungarian personnel in this area. Our forces seized the following trophies: 91 aircraft, 29 tanks and self-propelled guns, and 222 guns of various calibers.
Our forces, together with units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, continued to eliminate the enemy force in BELGRADE. To the southeast of BELGRADE, our forces tightened the ring on the encircled enemy force. On October 18, our forces seized the following trophies in this area: 18 tanks and self-propelled guns, over 300 guns of various calibers, 20 armored personnel carriers, 175 machine-guns, 75 radio stations, over 2,000 motor cars, over 1,200 carts with military cargo, 500 horses, 26 different depots; 5,700 German personnel were captured.
Reconnaissance operations and local fighting were reported elsewhere on the front.
On October 18, our forces destroyed 35 German tanks on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 50 enemy aircraft.
