On October 21 in North Transylvania, our forces together with the Romanian forces secured the settlements of SEPINTA, JAPA, BERBESTI, DZULESTI, DESESTI, BLIDAR, ILBA, MIRIUS, HOMORODUL-DE-JOS, DZERAUSA, BELTIUG, KEC, and the railroad station of CIKERLEU.
In Hungary, to the north and northeast of the city of DEBRECEN, our forces launched an offensive to secure 40 settlements, including the important settlements and railroad stations of HAJDUSAMSON, HAIDU-HADHAZ, NYIRADONY, NYIRMIHALYDI, BALKANY, KOLLO-SEMJEN, and NAD-KALLO. Seizing the city of DEBRECEN on 20 October, our forces captured over 1,000 German and Hungarian personnel and seized the following trophies: 12 aircraft, 157 guns of various calibers, 13 locomotives, 23 troop trains, and 10 weapons, munitions and other materiel depots.
To the north and west of the city of SEGED, our forces continued an offensive to take the Hungarian towns and important railroad stations of CSONGRAD, KISTELEK, and BACSBOKOD, the town and railroad junction of BAJA, and over 100 other settlements, including the important settlements of SENTKUT, SANDORFALVA, FORRASKUT, GEBELEARAS, PUSTAMERDES, and JANOSTELEK.
In Yugoslavia, to the southwest of the town of SUBOTICA, our forces took the town and railroad station of SIVAC and the important settlements of TELECKA and CRVENKA.
To the south and southeast of BELGRADE, our forces, together with units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, took the city and important railroad station of KRAGUEVAC, the town and railroad station of JAGODINA, and secured the important settlements of BARAEVO, BELANOVICA, GORNI MILANOVAC, PRISLONICA, VRBA, MEDVEDJA, and VELIKA DRENOVA.
Reconnaissance operations and local fighting were reported elsewhere on the front.
On October 20, our forces destroyed 91 German tanks on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 44 enemy aircraft.
