On October 15, units of the Karelian Front broke through heavy German defenses to the northwest of MURMANSK and, supported by the warships and landing teams of the Soviet Northern Fleet, took town of PETSAMO (PECHENGA), an important naval base and important enemy stronghold in the Far North, and the following settlements: BOLSHAYA LITSA, BOLSHAYA ZAPADNAYA LITSA, TITOVKA OSTROV, TITOVKA REKA, POROVARA, LINAHAMARI, TRIFONA, PARKKINA, NYASYUKKA, KAKURI, LUOSTARI, KOLTTAKIULIA, PEATSAMSIAD, and PIL-GUYARVEN.
To the west of Riga, our forces, continuing their offensive, took the settlements of BULLI, BULLIUCIEMS, PRIEDAINE, SULTYNI, ZOLITUDE, SKULTE, and the railroad stations of BABITE and PRIEDAINE.
In North Transylvania, our forces, together with the Romanian forces, took the town and railroad junction of DEJ, the town and railroad station of NESEUD, and secured over 50 other settlements, including the major settlements of HORDO, SALVA, ZAGRA, ISHPAN-MEZE, FELER, RETEG, NUZDRIOARA, OKNA-DEZHULUJ, ORMAN, GIROLD, BORLEA, VULCU-RENI, BERINDU, UGRUCU, ZIMBORUL MARE, PETRINDU and the railroad stations of KIS-REBRA, SALVA, NIMIDZA, RETEG, and OKNA-DEZHULUJ.
In Yugoslavia, our forces, together with units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, secured the towns of POZAREVAC and KRUSEVAC.
Reconnaissance operations and local fighting were reported elsewhere on the front.
On October 14, our forces destroyed 143 German tanks on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 61 enemy aircraft.
The Soviet air forces bombed TILSIT (GERMANY), the seaports of KLAIPEDA (MEMEL) and LIEPAJA (LIBAVA).
In the early hours of October 15, Soviet long-range bombers delivered an air strike on the German city of TILSIT, enemy cargo ships and depots in the seaports of KLAIPEDA (MEMEL) and LIEPAJA (LIBAVA).
The bombs sparked multiple fires and caused two strong explosions at the railroad junction of TILSIT, notably in the northern part of the city, at a major enemy motor cars and trucks’ parking lot and near the passage across the river NIEMEN.
In KLAIPEDA (MEMEL), the bombs set off 30 fires, with the port and all military sites in the eastern and southeastern parts of the city set on fire, and several strong explosions were reported from the shipyard in the southern part of the city.

When Soviet bombs hit LIEPAJA (LIBAVA), up to 25 German cargo ships were moored there. The bombing set off dozens of fires, with two sea cargo ships on fire near the quay, and more cargo ships also on fire farther out to sea. One bomb scored a direct hit on a cargo ship and sunk it at the entrance to the harbor. A powerful explosion was reported from the cargo ships moored at the VOLNY seaport. Large fires were reported from the railroad station, kerosene tanks, and enemy naval base.
Amid multiple fires, the Soviet pilots turned back and were 200 kilometers away when major explosions occurred.
