On October 10 on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL), our forces continued to mop
up the enemy force on the southern end of the island. On their way to RIGA,
our forces continued an offensive to secure over 60 settlements, including
DIPTERI, ILTENI, GARKALNE, ROPAZI, CAPAS, ROTKALI, MELTERTI, STOPINI, BLANKAS,
DUPAS, AND THE RAILROAD STATIONS OF LILASTE, GAUJA, ROPAZI, ISKSTILE, and
SAULKALNE. To the north and southeast of the city of KLAIPEDA (MEMEL), our
forces, continuing their successful offensive, took administrative centers in
Soviet Lithuania: the town and railroad junction of KRETINGA, the town and a
major railroad station of TAURAGE, and secured 300 other settlements, including
VAJ-NJODE, ALEKSANDRIJA, MOSEDIS, LENKIMAI, SIENA PILTIS, GRUSLAUKIS, SALANTAI,
DARBENAI, GORZDY, SVEKSNI, GORDOMY, ALEKSANDROVSKOE, DEGUCE, DRAVDIANAI,
PRISMONTAI, TAURAI, and the railroad stations of VAJNJODE, PALUKNE, MEDININKAI,
NAVIASEDZIAI, DARBENAI, TUBAVSE, SATEJKI, KORIANAI, VAVERAICIAS, and KLIBI. Our
forces reached the shore of the Baltic Sea to the south of the town of LIEPAJA
(LIBAVA) and secured the town of PALANGA, thus cutting off a possible retreat
route for the Nazi force entrenched in the RIGA – LIBAVA – VINDAVA area, to East
Russia. To the west of KAUNAS, our forces took the administrative center of
Soviet Lithuania, the town of SAKIAI. In North Transylvania to the west and
southwest of the town of REGIN, our forces, together with the Romanian forces,
secured over 50 settlements, including the major settlements of GORENI, DEDRAD,
MEZE-ERMENES, MEZE-PAGOCHA, MEZE-SHALJI, CIGARENI, ANTON, FELEACSUL (5
kilometers to the south of the town of KLUJ), VLACHA, and SOMESUL RECE. In
Hungary to the south of the city of DEBRECEN, our forces, continuing their
offensive, secured the town and railroad station of DERECKE and the settlements
of KONYAR, BOCSAI, ESTAR, and HENCIDA, approaching closer to the city of
DEBRECEN and engaging in close combat with the enemy in the outskirts of the
town. In Yugoslavia to the south and southeast of the town of POZAREVAC, our
forces, together with units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia,
secured the settlements of PANKOVO, ZABARI, VELIKA PLANA, IZVARICA, RAVNA REKA,
LUKOVO, BOLEVAC, and the railroad junction of VELIKA PLANA, cutting the NIS –
BELGRADE railway and highway. On October 8 and 9, our forces captured 3,200
German personnel in this area. Reconnaissance operations and local fighting
were reported elsewhere on the front. On October 9, our forces destroyed 106
German tanks on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 78
enemy aircraft.
