On March 8, the advancing 2nd Belarussian Front forces captured the towns of Bytow (Butow) and Koscierzyna (Berendt), major centers of rail and road ways and major German strongpoints en route to Danzig, and took upwards of another 300 settlements, among which are the towns of Adlich Liebenau, Peplin, Rajkau, Swaroschin, Schadrau, Meisterwalde, Stangenwalde, Eggertshutte, Grabuwko, Kaliska, Kornen, Nakel, Borntuchen, Alt Kolziglow, Klein and Gross Gansen, Klein Silkow, Quackenburg and Franzen. On March 7, the Front’s forces captured 2,000-plus German soldiers and officers.
On the Stettin approach, northwest and west of the town of Stargard, the Red Army fought to drive the enemy from the east bank of the Oder River and took over 60 settlements, including Lubzin, Christinenberg, Augustwalde, Barenbruch, Kublank, Reckow, Kolow, Sinzlow and Breinerheide. On March 7, the 1st Belarussian Front forces captured over 3,000 prisoners. In Hungary, northeast and south of Lake Balaton, the Red Army kept on repulsing attacks of the German infantry and armor. Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued on other fronts. 116 enemy tanks were damaged and destroyed and 39 enemy aircraft were downed on March 7 on all fronts.
