Units of the Leningrad Front performed a superb landing operation to secure the island of HIUMA (DAGO) in the Baltic Sea.
To the southeast of the town of TURKA (Drogobych region), our forces overcame stiff enemy resistance and successfully negotiated heavily fortified restricted mountainous and forested terrain to secure the settlements of KALNE, HUTAR, TARNAVKA, KLIMEC, WYZLOW, LAWOCZNE, OPOZEC, RESZITKA, ROZHANKA NIZNA, VOLOSIANKA, ROZHANKA VIZNA, JELENKOVATE, and the railroad stations of LAWOCZNE and BESKID.
In North Transylvania, our forces took the town and railroad station of REGIN and the settlements of IDICEL, DELENY, ALSO-IDEC, and OROSFALU.
To the south and southwest of the Romanian town of TIMISOARA, on the northern bank of the DUNAI, our forces crossed the border between Romania and Yugoslavia, breaking down the resistance of German forces, and took over the Yugoslav town and railroad junction of PETROVGRAD (VELIKI BECKEREK), the town and railroad junction of VRASAC, the town of BELA CRKVA, and secured over 50 other settlements, including the major settlements of KLEK, LAZAREVO, JASA TOMIC, ULMA, JASENOVO, VRACEV GAI, the railroad stations of ALEKSANDROVO, LAZAREVO, SARCA, ULMA, VRACEV GAI, AND JASENOVO.
To the south of the Romanian town of TURNU SEVERIN, our forces secured the Yugoslav settlements of TOPOLNICA, KLOKOCEVAC, RUDNA GLAVA, PLAVNA, UROVICA, SLATINA, JABUKOVAC, MALA KAMENICA, DUPLJANE, KARBULOVO, TRNJANI, BRESTOVAC, SIKOLE, METRIS, GLOGOVICA, SALAS, DUBOCANE, MALA JASIKOVA, KOPRIVNICA, RGOTINA, and BELA REKA.
Reconnaissance operations were reported elsewhere on the front.
On October 2, the Soviet air and air defense forces downed 11 enemy aircraft.
