On October 9, on the island of SAAREMAA (EZEL) our forces secured over 50 settlements, including UNDA, METSA, KORUSE, KUREVERE, KIHELKONNA, VEDRUKA, KARALA, LUMANDA, TOMALOUKA, MATSALOUKA, TEHU-MARDI, UJDIBE.
On their way to RIGA, our forces continued an offensive to secure the settlements of ESPARS, JAUNZEMNIEKI, TILTINI, GRITJUKROGS, REJ-PAS, LAUNAGI, RUCENES, KLIDI, the railroad station of VANGAZI.
To the west and southwest of the city of SAULIAI, our forces, continuing their offensive, secured over 300 settlements, including the town of JUR-BARKAS (JURBURG), and the following important settlements: KERVIAI, BARSTICIAI, KALVARIJA, ALSEDZIAI, PLATELIAI, KULI, VEZAICE (20 kilometers to the east of the city of MEMEL), BROZE, VEVIRZANAI, JURDANAI, PAJURZE, POJURAI, BYKOVJAN, SAKVICE, GAVRI, and the railroad stations of TARVOINE, BATAKIAI, and JUDPETRIAI.
On the right-hand bank of the River NAREV to the south of PULTUSK, our forces successfully repulsed multiple attacks of enemy armor and infantry. On October 8, 94 German tanks were destroyed in this area.
In North Transylvania to the west and southwest of the town of REGIN, our forces, together with the Romanian forces, secured the settlements of SONTU, FARAGO, ERCSI, BALA, MOISHA, KIMPENNICA, MEZE CAVOS, HERGELJA, KUESD, HARTSO, CIPTELNIK, PANET, and BERGI.
In Hungary to the southwest of the city of DEBRECEN, our forces, continuing their offensive, took the towns and major railroad stations of NADUDVAR, PJUSPEK-LADAN, DEVAVANYA, TURKEVE, KARCAG, HAJDUSZOBOSZLO (18 kilometers to the southwest of DEBRECEN), and secured over 100 other settlements, including KABA, BARAND, RAKOCI, ECSOD, and the railroad stations of KABA, PUSZTAECSEG, TENYO, KENGYEL, MARTFU, and TISZA FELDVAR. On the airfields around NADUDVAR and RAKOCI, our forces seized 140 German aircraft. On October 8, the Soviet forces captured 4,220 German and Hungarian personnel. In total, 8,220 German and Hungarian personnel were captured in three days of fighting.
In Yugoslavia, to the west of the town of VELIKA KIKINDA, our forces crossed the River TISZA to take the town and railroad junction of SENTA on the western bank of the river, the town and railroad junction of STARI BECEI, and important settlements of STARA KANIZA, ADA, and MOL.
Reconnaissance operations and local fighting were reported elsewhere on the front.
On October 8, our forces destroyed 202 German tanks on all fronts. The Soviet air and air defense forces downed 26 enemy aircraft.
