On April 7, northwest of the town of Ruzomberok in the Carpathian zone of attack, the 4th Ukrainian Front forces dislodged the enemy troops from more than 30 settlements, including Brenka, Malinka, Kamesnica, Ujsoly, Roztoky, Stankovani and Hombas. Northeast and north of Bratislava, the 2nd Ukrainian Front forces exploited success, taking the town of Novo Mesto and over 50 other settlements, including important towns Ksinna, Uhrovec, Kalnica, Cachtice, Kostolne, Brezova, Hlboke, Senica, Cachov, Stepanov and Smolinske. In this area, the remaining units of the 24th Hungarian infantry division defected in full combat gear, led by the divisional commander, Col. Muzson, and his staff.
The 3rd Ukrainian Front forces, advancing vic. Vienna, took the towns of Meidling, Pressbaum and Klosterneuburg, reached the Danube northwest of Vienna and tried to penetrate the southern suburbs of Vienna. Southwest of Lake Balaton, the Soviet forces, advancing in conjunction with Bulgarian troops, seized the town of Cakovec and its railroad center, as well as the town of Mursko-Sredisce and its railroad station. On April 6, the fighting produced over 3,600 prisoners and 11 aircraft, 22 tanks, 78 field guns and 127 machineguns captured.
Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued throughout the rest of the front. On April 6, 28 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were damaged and destroyed and 14 enemy aircraft were downed in aerial combat and by anti-aircraft guns on all fronts.
