In the course of May 8, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front, continuing to fight battles to clear the FRISCHE NEHRUNG Spit of the enemy, seized the settlements of NEU WELT and VOGELSANG.

Upon reaching the River ELBE on May 7, the troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front took 7,150 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured the following trophies: 28 tanks; 513 field guns; 402 machineguns; 1,700 vehicles; 3,700 horses; 2,200 carts loaded with military cargoes.

After two-day battles, the troops of the 1st UKRAINIAN Front crushed enemy resistance and on May 8 seized the city of DRESDEN - an important road juncture and a powerful stronghold of enemy defenses in Saxony,  and the towns of MUGELN, LOM-MATZSCH, MEISEN, LEISNIG, DEBELN, HARTA, WALDHEIM, ODERAN, SAIDA and crossing the Czechoslovak border south of DRESDEN, seized in Czechoslovakia the towns of MOST, DUCHCOV, TEPLICE-SANOV. Simultaneously, east of DRESDEN, the troops of the front, crushing enemy resistance, seized the towns of RADEBERG, LOBAU, REICHEHNBACH, BERNSTADT, GORLITZ.  Southwest and south of BRESLAVL, the troops of the front seized the towns of STRIGAU, FREIBURG, MUNSTERBERG, OTTMACHAU.

The troops of the 4th UKRAINIAN Front, pursuing the offensive, seized, after fierce fighting, the town of OLOMOUC - a large railway juncture and a powerful stronghold of enemy defenses on the MORAVA river, and the towns of WERBETAL, ENGELSBERG, REMERSTADT, BERGSTADT, MORAWSKE SHENBERG, HOENSTADT, GRANICE, PRZEROW. Fighting on May 7, the troops of the front took up to 1,000 Nazi men and officers prisoner.

On May 8, the troops of the 2nd UKRAINIAN Front, seized in Czechoslovakia the towns of JAROMERICE, ZNOJMO and in Austria the towns of HOLLABRUNN and STOCKERAU - important communication centers and powerful strongholds of enemy defenses.

The situation did not change considerably on the other sections of the front.
