In the course of May 3, south-west of the town and port of PILLAU, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front fought battles to clear the Frische Nehrung Spit of the enemy and seized the settlements of KALBERG LIEP, KAISERHOF. The troops of the 2nd BELARUSSIAN Front, developing the offensive, seized the towns of BART, BAD, DOBERAN, NEUBUKOW, WARIN, WITTENBERGE and on May 3, on the WISMAR-WITTENBERGE line linked up with the allied British forces. The troops of the front also seized the large settlements of KREPELIN, NEU KLOSTE, BUTZOW, POSTROW, GOLDBERG, KAROW, MEINBURG, PUTLITZ, PRITZWALK and PERLEBERG.

In the battles on May 2, the troops of the front took 10,600 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured 328 aircraft. Among those taken prisoner was Major-General Mato, Commander of the Fifth Stettin district for labor service.

Northwest of Berlin, the troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front, pursuing the offensive, took by force the large settlements of WILSNACK, GLOWEN, STUDENITZ, NITZOW, WOLGAST, STRODENE, RINOW, SPATZ, HOHENNAUEN and reaching the ELBE river southeast of the town of WITTENBERGE, linked up with the allied US forces.

On May 2 after 9 p m in BERLIN, the troops of the front took another 20,000-plus Nazi men and officers prisoner; apart from that, 10,700 wounded Nazi soldiers were captured in hospitals. A total of 100,700 Nazi men and officers were taken prisoner in BERLIN on May 2. Among those taken prisoner were Lieutenant-General Baur, Commander of an air force government squadron; Major-General Wruhbel, chief of the medical service of the Berlin police; Lieutenant-General (police) Rattenhuber, Goebbel’s chancellery head Seiler.

On May 2, the troops of the 1st UKRAINIAN Front fighting in the area of BERLIN, took over 34 000 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured 37 tanks and over 140 guns.  Among those taken prisoner was Major-General Roben, Commander of the 236th German Infantry   Division. 

So, fighting in the area of BERLIN on May 2, our troops took over 134,000 Nazi men and officers prisoner, of whom 100,000 were taken prisoner by the troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front and 34,000 - by the troops of the 1st UKRAINIAN Front. 

The troops of the 4th UKRAINIAN Front, pursuing the offensive, seized the town of SZCZECIN - an important road juncture and a powerful stronghold of enemy defenses, and the large settlements of WALTERSDOF, BUTOVICE, FRYDEK, KARVINNA, POGWIZDOW, HOLESOV, LESNA, MAKOW. Fighting on May 2, the troops of the front took over 1,400 Nazi men and officers prisoner.

The troops of the 2nd UKRAINIAN Front, pursuing the offensive east of the town of BRNO, took by force the large settlements of LACNOV, ZLIN, OSTROKOVICE, SELESOVICE, RATAE, KRENOVICE. On May 2, the troops of the front took over 1,000 Nazi men and officers prisoner. Major-General Muller, Commander of the German 16th Tank division was taken prisoner by Czechoslovak partisans and turned over to our troops.

The situation did not change considerably on the other sections of the front.   

On May 2, 53 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were disabled and destroyed on all fronts.
