In the course of February 6, in Eastern Prussia, north of the town of
ALLENSTEIN, our troops seized, as a result of offensive battles, the settlements
of WOSSEDEN, LANGWIESE, LAUNAU, FREIMARKT, BONERN, ARNSDORF, VOIGHTSDORF.
Troops of the 1st UKRAINIAN Front, continuing their offensive, forced the
ODER River southeast of the town of BRESLAU (BRESLAVL), pierced the Nazis’
strongly fortified permanent defenses on the west bank of the river and over
three days of offensive battles, had advanced up to 20 km, expanding the
bridgehead to up to 80 km along the front.
In the course of the offensive, the troops of the Front seized the towns of
OLAU, BRIEG, THOMASKIRCH, GROTTKAU, LEWEN and SCHURGAST, important
communications centers and Nazi defensive strongholds on the west bank of the
ODER, and took by force over 60 other settlements.
In BUDAPEST, our troops continued fighting to eliminate the enemy garrison
encircled in the western part of the city (BUDA) and seized 12 blocks.
On the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front, our troops took Lt. Gen. LUBBE, commander of
the 433rd Nazi infantry division, prisoner.
On February 5, our troops, fighting on all fronts, disabled and destroyed 189
German tanks. A total of 21 enemy aircraft were brought down in aerial combat or
by anti-aircraft guns.
