In the course of May 1, south-west of the town and port of PILLAU, the troops of the 3rd BELARUSSIAN Front fought battles to clear the FRISCHE NEHRUNG Spit of the enemy and seized the settlements of NARMELN, BRANDHEIDSCHER, NEUKRUG and VOGLERS.

The troops of the 2nd BELARUSSIAN Front, developing a whirlwind attack, seized on May 1 the towns of STRALSUND, GRIMMEN, DEMMIN, VAREN and VESENBERG – the powerful strongholds of German defenses and important road junctures. They also occupied the towns of STEINHAGEN, ABSTHAGEN, GREMERSDORF, DIELSDORF, GNOIEN, DARGUN, NEUKALEN, STAVEN HAGEN, GILOW, SCHWINKENDORF, MELLENHAGEN, KRATZEBURG, QUALZOW, STRASEN.

In the battles on April 30, the troops of the front took 8,500 Nazi men and officers prisoner and captured 66 aircraft and 100 guns.

On May 1, the troops of the 1st BELARUSSIAN Front took by assault the city of BRANDENBURG - the center of the Brandenburg province and a powerful stronghold of enemy defenses in Central Germany.  Simultaneously, northwest of BERLIN, the troops of the front, pursuing the offensive, took by force the towns of LINDOW and the large settlements of ALTRUPPIN, HERZBERG, WUTENOW, LICHTENBERG, NAREW, BEETZ, SOMMERFELD. In BERLIN, the troops of the front mopped up the last groups of the enemy in the city districts of CHARLOTTENBURG, SCHNEEBERG and seized over a hundred blocks in the central part of the city. In the battles on April 30, the troops of the front took 14,000 Nazi men and officers prisoner.

South of BERLIN, our troops continued fighting battles to eliminate the remains of an enemy group encircled in the woods east of the town of LUCKENWALDE. During the fighting, our troops split the enemy into two isolated parts and waged successful battles to eliminate them.

The troops of the 4th UKRAINIAN Front, pursuing the offensive, seized on May 1 the towns of BOGUMIN, FREISTADT, SKOCOV, CADCA and VELKA BITCA - important road junctures and powerful strongholds of enemy defenses in the West Carpathians, and the large settlements of SKRIPOV, MARKERSDORF, SLATINA, BILOVEZ, KLIMKOVICE, VITKOVICE, DETMAROVICE, PETROVICE, SKALITE, DOHUBARY, OCHODNICA, NOVE MESTO, PLEVNIK.

East of the town of BRNO, the troops of the 2nd UKRAINIAN Front, took by force the town of VYSKOV and the large settlements of PUCHOV, LEDNICKE, KOSECA, ILAVA, DUBNICA, NEMSOVA, ZITKOVA, BISCUPICE, BABICE, ROSTYN, PUSTIMER.

The situation did not change considerably on the other sections of the front.   

On April 30, 98 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were disabled and destroyed on all fronts. A total of 26 enemy aircraft were brought down in air battles or by anti-aircraft fire.
