The 2nd Belarussian Front forces exploited success by taking the towns of Greifswald, Treptow, Neustrelitz, Furstenberg and Gransee, key road junctions in northwestern Pomerania and Mecklenburg. They also seized the towns of Lassan, Volgast, Reinsberg and large settlements of Hanshagen, Zussow, Gutzkow, Jarmen, Bartow, Burow, Sarow, Wolde, Penzlin, Strelitz, Menz, Gross Woltersdorf and Dolgow. Over 1,500 prisoners were taken and 27 aircraft and 55 field guns captured on April 29.

North of Berlin, the 1st Belarussian Front troops dislodged the enemy from the town of Zedenik and large settlements of Klein Mutz, Bergsdorf, Falkenthal, Guten Germendorf, Lowenberg, Gruneberg, Teschendorf and Nassenheide. The troops carried on fighting on the streets of downtown Berlin, took the Reichstag and planted a standard on its roof. Our troops also captured the main post office, Interior Ministry and about 200 city blocks in downtown. More than 9,000 prisoners were taken in Berlin on April 29.

The 1st Ukrainian Front troops kept on fighting in southwest Berlin, taking several city blocks in the Wilmersdorf district and the Westkreutz railroad station.

Southeast of Berlin, our troops were busy mopping up an encircled enemy in the woods west of Wendisch Buchholz.

On April 30, the 4th Ukrainian Front forces assaulted and seized the town of Moravska Ostrava, a major industrial center a formidable enemy strongpoint in Czechoslovakia.

At the same time, the Front’s forces took the town of Zilina, a key road junction in the West Carpathians.

East of Brno, the 2nd Ukrainian Front troops kept on attacking and seized such large settlements, as Buchlovice, Stupava, Koricany, Nemotice, Milonyce, Svaberice, Ivanovice and Dedice.

Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued throughout the rest of the front.

110 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were hit and destroyed and 79 enemy aircraft were shot down in aerial combat and by anti-aircraft guns on all fronts on April 29.
