On March 28, the 3rd Belarussian Front troops continued mopping up the remainder of the defeated enemy in the vicinity of Cape Kalholzer Haken southwest of Konigsberg. On March 27, the Front’s forces captured 222 field guns, 223 mortars, 430 machineguns, 22 armored personnel carriers, 35 radios and 1,500 wheeled vehicles.

On March 28, the 2nd Belarussian Front forces assaulted and took the city of Gdynia, an important naval base and a major harbor in the Baltic.

The Front’s troops captured about 9,000 prisoners and a lot of materiel when fighting for Gdynia.

At the same time, the Front’s troops seized the western part of Gdansk (Danzig) in bitter fighting and were mopping up the enemy in the district on the Holm Island.

The 2nd Ukrainian Front’s troops continued to attack along the southern bank of the Danube River to take the towns of Gyer and Komarom on March 28. Those were important German strongpoints on the avenue of approach to Vienna. The Front’s forces also took more than 40 other settlements, including Gonyu, Gyorszentivan, Kismegyer, Manfo, and Nyulfalu.

On March 28, the 3rd Ukrainian Front troops advanced and forced the Raba River to take the towns of Csorna and Sarvar, important road junctions and German strongpoints covering the way towards the Austrian border. They also took more than 150 other settlements, including Rabaszentmihaly, Rabapordany, Rabasebes, Papoc, Ostfyasszonvfa, Gerce, Kald, Bogote, Csabrendek, Sumeg, Zalaszentgrot, Bazsi, Also, Nemesvita, and Szigliget and the railroad stations of Gerce, Kald, Ukk, Goganfa, and Sumeg. The Front’s troops captured more than 1,500 prisoners on March 27.

Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued throughout the rest of the front.

190 German tanks and self-propelled guns were damaged and destroyed and 96 aircraft were downed on all the fronts on March 27.
