On April 26, the 3rd Belarussian Front forces crossed a channel between the Baltic and the Gulf of Frisches Haff and exploited success along the Frische Nehrung spit southwest of Pillau.

The 2nd Belarussian Front forces crossed the eastern and western Oder south of Stettin, penetrated the well-fortified enemy defenses on the western bank and made 30 km. In the process, they took Pomerania’s main city and post of Stettin, towns of Gartz, Penkun, Nasekowa and Schwedt and the settlements of Stewen, Schwennenz, Glasow, Bagemuhl, Friedefeld, Grunz, Wartin, Blumberg, Stendel and Vierraden, and crossed the Randow channel.

The 1st Belarussian Front forces carried on stiff street fighting in Berlin, taking the districts of Gartenstadt and Siemensstadt and the Goerlitz railroad station in the eastern section of the city. Northest of Berlin, our forces seized the towns of Finow, Finowfurth and Marienwerder. West and southwest of Frankfurt-am-Oder, they dislodged the enemy from the towns of Konigswusterhausen, Neuemuhle, Storkow, Beeskow and Lieberose and the large settlements of Senzig, Gussow, Gross Schauen, Damsdorf, Herzberg, Gersdorf, Stremmen, Trebatsch, Mitweide, Gross Leuten and Mochow.  On April 25, over 2,000 prisoners were taken and 70 aircraft, 30 tanks and self-propelled guns, 248 field guns, 1,467 wheeled vehicles, 53 steam engines and 3,404 railroad cars were captured.

The 1st Ukrainian Front troops continued to fight on the streets of southwest Berlin, assuming control over the district of Dahlem. They seized the towns of Torgau and Strela on the western bank of the Elbe and continued repelling counterattacks of large armored and infantry forces in the vicinity of Bautzen. On April 25, the Front’s troops took 1,500 prisoners and captured 238 tanks and self-propelled guns and 236 field guns.

In Breslau, our troops fought in the western part of the city, ousting the enemy from 26 city blocks, several industrial areas and a large section of the arsenal, in which they seized 110 artillery pieces.

The 2nd Ukrainian Front forces kept on attacking and, as a result of a flanking maneuver and a frontal attack, seized Czechoslovakia’s major industrial center – the city of Brno that is a key road junction and a formidable enemy strongpoint. They also drove the enemy out of more than 30 Czechoslovak settlements, including Velesovice, Jezera, Mokra, Malomerice, Obrany, Kohoutovice and Zebetin.

Reconnaissance operations and local fighting continued throughout the rest of the front.

125 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were hit and destroyed and 82 Luftwaffe planes were shot down in aerial combat and by anti-aircraft guns on all fronts on April 25.
